Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic Tabletop Role-Playing Game

The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division will be adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a TTRPG set within the series' apocalyptic setting. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.

"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the table, providing fans a new way to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and player-driven missions," reads an announcement.

Initial offerings will include a starter set, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various premium versions.

Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World

In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, sending the United States into chaos. As the crisis escalates, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, turning the city into a battlefield. To restore order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents enter the story.

Development on the RPG has been in progress for approximately three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to access a broader market, particularly in the United States. Production is slated to begin immediately following the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for the latter part of 2026.

An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

An early look at the game's rules confirms it uses d10s exclusively through its new GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and strategic style. Players use skills or traits to assemble small dice pools, usually from one to five d10s.

  • Rather than summing the total, players select a single “resolution die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
  • Rolling a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.

Engagements Focus On Tactical Placement and Awareness

Fights prioritize positioning and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This system is designed to favor coordination and clever tactics instead of simple statistics.

A Novel Health System

The way health is tracked introduces a interesting narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their capabilities by decreasing the size of their dice pool.

  1. At zero health, an operative collapses, but is not knocked out.
  2. They can still move and perform restricted acts, emulating the last stand common to many shooter games.
  3. Any agent knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like trauma or crippling injuries.

An Introductory Adventure

A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released soon. It contains a ready-to-play introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players spearhead the search for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the full range of offerings are expected to be detailed closer to the campaign launch.
