The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
