The English Team to Start the European Championship 2028 Quest at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the expected qualification for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an English men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to host the national team for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Launch and Rally

The tournament was inaugurated at an event in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were confronted as they entered the venue by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be removed from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Signs were raised with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a match that will feature Wales if they secure a place.

Wembley will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to family audiences and help connect with a broader range of fans.

Host Nations

The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would do the same at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the preliminary stage; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through that route.

Venues and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals staged at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a tournament for the supporters and a festival of everything we love about the game – its passion and capacity to bring people together.”

Over 3 million passes, a record for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be offered to attendees.
