The Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.

"It's incredible for our team, the city, our country," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."

George Springer has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, placing him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that situation other than him with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their work this season.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he continued.

Toronto's team secured the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
