Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” the coach remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with performances this poor.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
