Cameron Norrie earned the most notable win of his career by rallying from a early deficit to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Although he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two occasions, this victory signifies Norrie's first ever success over a sitting world top-ranked player.

"Huge. Incredibly significant for me," stated Norrie, who joins as the latest British man in history to overcome a global number one. "Bouncing back from health issues last year, I was defeated in the initial match of qualifying rounds here. I just sought to enjoy my game in the second half of the year. To secure a win like this, it's the biggest win of my professional life, my initial victory over the global number one and probably the most confident player in the world right now."

The British player, positioned 31st in the world, also ended Alcaraz's dominant sequence of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive elite tournament victories, which represented the finest stretch of results in the young champion's young career.

Alcaraz seemed to be progressing easily to a win early on as he sailed past the initial stanza. However, the British contender steadily worked himself back into the game by delivering with sharper placement and engaging the Spanish opponent into extended, demanding points. His relentless steadiness and reliability slowly left its mark.

Through most of the contest, the world number one delivered strong serves but he found it challenging to get his timing right on his baseline shots. The young star seemed particularly uneasy executing his primary weapon, which has been the best shot in the game for most of this season, producing 29 mistakes off the forehand side and a total of 54 errors.
