Democrats Denounce Trump After He Claims They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials demonstrated anger after former President Donald Trump alleged a coalition of Democratic legislators of being "turncoats" and asserted they should be detained and penalized "through capital punishment" following their release of a controversial video.

The Message That Triggered the Controversy

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, features six Democratic lawmakers who previously worked in military or defense capacities.

"Like us, you all swore an vow to protect and uphold this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the short video. "Currently, the risks to our governing document are not only from abroad, but from domestically. Our regulations are explicit, you can reject improper directives, you can reject unlawful commands, you should decline unlawful commands. No one has to carry out commands that violate the statutes or our founding principles."

Trump's Incensed Reply

The clip seemed to trigger a angry reply from the ex-president.

On later in the week, Trump published on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he declared: "This constitutes really bad, and Harmful to our United States. Their words cannot be permitted to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives React

Following Trump's comments on that day, Top Democrats released a combined statement condemning the statements.

"Political violence has no position in this nation," they wrote. "Elected officials who were featured in the video all served our United States with tremendous patriotism and distinction. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and risky threats of violence against elected officials, and appeal to House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in touch with security officials "to ensure the protection of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these extreme social media posts and recant his aggressive discourse before he causes harm," the declaration stated.

Representatives' Firm Reaction

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also released a declaration.

"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who care for this nation and swore an oath to protect and defend the national charter of the United States," they stated. "Our pledge is permanent, and we plan to honor it. No intimidation, pressure, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that fundamental duty."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president deems it punishable by execution for us to restate the legal requirements," they stated. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their protection as they carry out their pledge to the founding principles and obligation to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "Every American must unite and denounce the former president's requests for our death and ideological conflict. This is a period for ethical certainty."

More Political Comments

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's comments and posted on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is calling for the capital punishment of public representatives."

He added: "This is an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this without delay and absolutely."

The Conservative official defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "treason", characterizing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This represents very harmful, you have leading members of Congress telling military personnel to defy commands, I think that represents historic in American history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the crime of rebellion" but that "legal experts have to analyze the wording and determine all that."

White House Response

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a media member, "Is the president want to put to death congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative responded: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the former president is responding to," the spokesperson said. "There are current representatives of the federal government who worked together to arrange a digital communication to personnel of the national defense, to active duty service members encouraging them to disobey the president's proper directives."

She added: "The purity of our military rests on the hierarchy, and if that system is broken, it can result in casualties, it can lead to chaos, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally encouraging."
