Viral video clips appeared to show Jones flashing his middle finger toward opposing supporters, but Jones insists he was actually signaling approval to Cowboys fans in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“That was unfortunate. It was kind of an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the incorrect finger,” he noted. “The action was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”
