Bullish Wilfried Nancy insists he is not worried about being fired however Celtic fans display anger following derby defeat.
Wilfried Nancy declared he was not afraid of losing his job, claiming, “We are very near to things turning around,” in the wake of sliding worryingly close to being fired with a heavy defeat by the Ibrox side.
A Second-Half Capitulation Results in Old Firm Defeat
The home side were in front the visitors at half-time but a second-half capitulation let Danny Röhl’s team to move level on points with the current league title holders. Nancy, who was appointed in December, has now been in charge for six losses in eight fixtures.
“The board and I are united at the club,” said Nancy.
Questioned about the speculation, the 48-year-old responded: “It’s not on my mind. My focus is on finding ways to aid my players to excel on details.
Protest Erupts
Celtic’s support displayed their anger – directed at the hierarchy – by protesting at Parkhead. The board are thought to be considering to return to Martin O’Neill, who steered the club during a caretaker period before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the situation for the moment. Yet by saying this is the reality, it doesn’t mean that I am giving up. No. What I mean the turnaround is near, imminently close to turn things around.”
“Really, Really Close”
The coach highlights the fact Celtic show good levels for 45 minutes at a time. For instance, if not for missed chances they could have been greater than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit other than the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I must remain fair.
“The standard we had at certain moments was of top quality. That is a fact. I wouldn't talk like that if it was different. That is the reason, in terms of results, I mentioned this is the same story. Which is why I said that a change is coming to things turning around. But for the moment: details, details, details.”
“I saw plenty of positives that we did, like today again. However is consistency. My outlook would be different the same. That’s why I am a big believer we will manage to turn things around.”
The Rangers Boss Stance
The victorious boss refused to contemplate a serious challenge despite what appeared to be a huge result. “One match at a time, so we can develop something here,” he said. “The confidence in the group is immense.”
