American actor Pat Finn, who featured in popular programs including Friends, Seinfeld and The Middle, has died at the age of 60.

The skilled improv artist passed away at his residence in Los Angeles this Monday having undergone treatment for a cancer diagnosis since 2022, per media reports.

"He considered no one a stranger - solely future friends he didn't know yet," his family said in a message.

They continued that he had "embraced life completely - with joy and exuberance".

An Extensive Career on Screen

Finn's first television role was on the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the lead character's sibling.

He was also seen in a repeating character on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.

He starred as Joe Mayo in the show Seinfeld in the late 90s, playing a social organizer who would assign burdensome jobs to his guests.

Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, he had guest spots on several hit series, such as:

  • King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House, M.D.

His most famous role for portraying Bill Norwood in The Middle, featuring across eight seasons of the show over nearly a decade.

His cinematic roles encompass "It's Complicated" and "Santa Paws 2".

Off-Screen Life

Outside of his on-screen roles, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and served as an educator at the University of Colorado, where he was a faculty member.

He was part of a six-person improv troupe called "Beer Shark Mice".

"He guided, supported, and advised many learners throughout the years and it would be difficult to find anyone anyplace who has an unkind word to say about him," his family wrote.

Offering condolences, peer Richard Kind said there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, assisting others to improve and be funnier. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote online.

Pat Finn is leaves behind his spouse Donna, his three kids, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
