Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players looking for different ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
