Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
